Guillaume de Mévius and the G Rally Team present G-ECKO. A new name, a new brand, and a new vehicle that will make its rally-raid debut in the Challenger category.

It is at the 5e round of the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship in Morocco that the G Rally Team revealed the launch of G-ECKO. The team will shortly be presenting itself under this name, and it will also be the brand whose 1st model will shortly be leaving the Belgian team’s workshops in Wavre. The G-ECKO will make their appearance at the next Dakar Rally, in January 2025. The G Rally Team is already sharing the first details of its new project.

Created in 2018 by Ghislain de Mévius, Guillaume’s brother, the G Rally Team was initially dedicated to the maintenance and preparation of rally cars. The structure has evolved, emerging as a genuine manufacturer and specializing in rally-raid, particularly following the takeover of the OT3 project, supported by the Red Bull Offroad Junior Team, in 2021.

In a couple of years, the G Rally Team has grown and gained both experience and success. Since it started competing, the team has achieved a finish rate of over 85%, and its vehicles have finished on the podium at least one out of three times! What makes this team so successful is its professionalism, its know-how, and the complementary skills of the 20 people who make it up.

“We’re a team where everyone has their place”, says Guillaume de Mévius. “We live things together. At the races, our mechanics work alongside our customers, and everyone plays an important role. We take things seriously, with professionalism, but we make sure we do it in a friendly, family way”, he continues. A winning formula, then, and a solid base from which to take on other challenges…

After taking over and continuing to develop the OT3, which initially came out of the Overdrive Racing workshops, the G Rally Team was really able to develop and refine its vision of what it felt was the best way to develop this prototype. Louis de Laminne, Managing Director of the G Rally Team, explains: “We took the time to think about and analyze everything we wanted to revise and correct on the OT3. Feedback from our customers was very important in this process. It’s their experience that drives us forward. We’ve now put all this into practice with the development of a new vehicle, which will also enter the Challenger category”.

To underline its ambitions and development plans for the coming years, the G Rally Team has also chosen to formalize the launch of a new name, and therefore a new brand, for this vehicle. It will be ‘G-ECKO’. The ‘G’ will ensure that the project, which has been close to the group’s heart, continues. Above all, it’s because the people are a team, a group, even a family. That’s how the name “& Co” gave rise to -ECKO, the association of the G with these 4 other letters forming “gecko”. An animal of the reptile family, generally found in semi-arid environments, around the Mediterranean for example, as well as in deserts. Grégoire de Mévius, Ghislain and Guillaume’s father, also used to display a small version of this animal on his cars, as a symbol of a region close to his heart.

For the G Rally Team, it was an obvious choice to announce the launch of G-ECKO at the Rallye du Maroc. A few first lines and shapes have been revealed and can be viewed on g-ecko.com. On their return from Morocco, the Team will finalize the production and testing phase, so as to be able to line up the G-ECKO CHALLENGER ONE on the next Dakar Rally. Further information and technical specifications will follow shortly.
